The U.S. Department of Labor recently took first of its kind steps to to provide more support and protection to people such as care workers, nannies, and house cleaners. Newly published sample agreements for domestic workers – who are mostly women – could help ensure workers’ rights and safe working conditions.
According to the Labor Department, these workers disproportionately work without stability, in uncertain conditions and without the formal employment conditions that could protect them.
These sample agreements are not legally binding, but are part of the Biden Administration’s sweeping Executive Order with the goals of both increasing protections for people in need of care and the workers who take care of them.
The new employment agreements could benefit both employee and employer by clarifying expectations and wages, working conditions, terms of employment, and outlining conflict resolution.
