People with disabilities face accessibility gaps in the workplace worldwide, a Deloitte 2024 survey finds.
According to the report, only one-third of individuals with disabilities disclose their condition to their teammates due to concerns about perceptions. The same survey also finds that of the 10,000 respondents who requested workplace accommodations, nearly 75% had their requests denied.
Excessive meetings can disproportionately affect employees with disabilities, especially if accessibility and accommodations are not incorporated, such as sign language interpreters, real-time captioning, or alternative formats for viewing materials.
Without accommodations, excessive meetings can harm employees with disabilities because the physical inaccessibility and communication issues can lead employees to feel overwhelmed, undervalued, and excluded.
Federal and state laws protect the rights of employees with disabilities. By implementing inclusive practices, employers enhance the success of both their employees and their businesses. Without such practices, employers can harm their employees and also violate the law.
