New technology, such as ipads and other tablets, are helping individuals of all ages live more independently and reach their academic and vocational goals.

These devices may be available through schools or other state and federally funded programs. The MO Div. of Developmental Disabilities has issued new guidelines to help Utilization Review Committees, DD providers, and others assess appropriately an individual’s need for assistive technology.

Assistive technology includes communication devices, hearing aids for adults, text-to-speech software, and hand-held computer devices.
