The Trump administration’s upheaval of the Department of Education will have wide-reaching impacts on students and schools across the country, including on hundreds of possible civil rights violations at schools in the Midwest.

The White House recently closed seven of the 12 civil rights offices, meaning the investigations into alleged discrimination that students face at their schools may completely disappear.

KCUR, the NPR station in Kansas City, interviewed Kennedy Hunt P.C. managing partner Sarah Jane Hunt about the cuts.

“What this is going to do is essentially take an agency that has already not had the type of resources I believe it needs to function correctly and make it even more impossible,” Hunt told KCUR. “Even before all of these cuts, the investigations were taking a very long time.”
