Places of public accommodation are barred from discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, sex, or disability. It’s actually prohibited by both Missouri and federal law. Yet and still, racial profiling keeps happening in St. Louis.
In May, Schnucks, a local grocery chain, fired an employee who allegedly denied black customers a money order. In that same month, Nordstrom Rack released an apology after a group of black men were wrongly accused of stealing from their Brentwood location.
And in July, 10 black Washington University in St. Louis students were falsely accused by police of skipping out on the bill at an IHOP in Clayton.
Needless to say, racial profiling is certainly an enduring issue in St. Louis and the nation as a whole. And it shouldn’t be.
