The country has a new federal holiday — Juneteenth.
Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States, marking the day union soldiers told enslaved people in Texas that the Civil War had ended and they were free.
This is the first new federal holiday in nearly 40 years and comes as the U.S. continues to grapple with institutional racism and social injustice.
Kennedy Hunt P.C. believes in the importance of continuously shedding light on the wrongs of this country’s past. Our civil rights law firm applauds the creation of this new federal holiday.
